“Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people possess a “deep-rooted sacred spirituality…that continue to encompass the richness and depth of the sacredness of Spirituality of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the traditions of the Catholic Church.”
Aunty Joan Hendriks – QCEC Honorary Elder
At St Gerard Majella we are committed to building and fostering relationships with First Nations people of our school and community. We respectfully acknowledge the past and present traditional owners of this land on which we meet.
St Gerard Majella School employs an Indigenous Liaison Officer to assist and support First Nations families and students within our school community. Our Indigenous Liaison Officer has developed relationships with elders and community members which assist the school in celebrating important cultural events and NAIDOC week.
“You are part of Australia and Australia is part of you. And the Church herself in Australia will not be fully the Church that Jesus wants her to be until you (the Indigenous peoples of Australia) have made your contribution of her life and until that contribution has been joyfully received by others.”
John Paul II, Alice Springs, November 1986
