St Gerard Majella School provides a quality education for students from diverse cultural backgrounds. As the school adjoins St Mary’s College, it is ideally placed for those families looking for a Preschool to 12 Campus for their children.
The school buildings and grounds are very well kept. All rooms are air-conditioned. The school features an undercover auditorium, kitchen, an undercover basketball court and adventure playground. It has a well resourced library. To support and enhance learning, the students have frequent access to a number of laptops that are used in the classroom.
St Gerard Majella offers students a sound academic education in all key learning areas including religious education. The school community has focused on curriculum projects to increase students’ literacy and numeracy levels. NAPLAN Year 3, 5, 7 Tests results, along with results from other evaluation and assessment tools indicate that students’ performance in literacy and numeracy has improved significantly.
Social/emotional education is an important part of daily class lessons with the whole school following the “You Can Do It!” Programme. All students have specialist lessons in Health and Physical Education, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Music. Language Other Than English (Japanese) is offered in Years 6&7.
The School has two Learning Support teachers, a part time School Counsellor and School officers who support integration, classroom and special needs programmes.
A number of extra-curricula activities are also offered to our students.
The St Gerard Majella community is supportive and caring. Committed and dedicated staff work closely with parents and caregivers to provide students with an opportunity to promote their spiritual, academic, social and physical development.
An Out of School Hours Childcare service is available in the afternoon until 6.00pm. Vacation care is also available on site.
Active parental and community involvement is encouraged. The school has a School Board and an active Parents and Friends Association. Other parental involvement includes: Curriculum Information Sessions, Assemblies, YCDI Parent Workshops, assistance in the classrooms and on excursions and camps, the School Fete, Working Bees and Parent/Teacher meetings.
The school is involved in Parish life through the Pastoral Council and Finance Committee as well as through Sacramental programmes and other Parish events.
At St Gerard Majella School we hope to perpetuate the spirit of the Franciscan Nuns who founded the school with a focus on the environment and a love of God’s creation.
